I mean how do we trust that some else's floor or socks are clean? Like, have some respect. We must advance as a society, and bring our own well-kept and maintained uwabaki when visiting other homes. It can even be shoes or slippers that never touch outdoors, but been indoors and given a fair scrub between visits. To be fair to the expectations of the guests, the host should have a uwabaki cleaning station at their entry. My takeaway from 5 years of living in Korea is that "outside" is expected to be a lawless filthy no man's land. Until very recently South Korea was a very rural and very poor country and they still don't really grasp the idea of public sanitation.
