The week of Labor Day, for example, they came on Friday morning at my house instead of the usual Thursday morning. Which doesn't bother me any, but I'm curious how this doesn't permanently shift the schedule by a day. Do they work extra to compensate or something?

I've worked for two different garbage companies and neither of them do this. This is actually a really good question that even I don't have an answer for. I'm a mechanic so I don't really ever see route schedules but our drivers don't usually work any extra days after the holiday.

The reason I say this is because my normal pickup is Friday. On holiday weeks they come Saturday. Im not sure if its the same crew though. I assumed it wasnt.

At least here, they're supposed to slide to Saturdays, but I've seen them come on Fridays where there was a holiday that week. So I have no idea and just put the trash out Thursday night regardless.

Sometimes they come early. Sometimes they skip a week. I guess the city can count on the rats to remove anything that is rotting.

There's not a lot of control above local level, so anything's possible. Around here it's all pushed back a day until you get Friday moved to Saturday, which has little or nothing scheduled normally and just absorbs it all. It's just two holidays a year, anyway, Dec 25 and Jan 1

Where we are Trash pickup just moves one day.

It's usually on Tuesday but last week it was Wednesday. Recycling was Saturday instead of Friday.

The following week returns to normal

Our garbage company got bought out recently and decided to change it up on us. They went anf picked up on the normally scheduled day after the holiday. My neighbor and myself were pissed cause neither of us knew about the change till we called them and the automated message before giving out options stated the change.
