yeah as far as magic recovery goes it's low. maybe not Poseidon or Heph low but it's in the bottom 3. But if it's a build that's not magic heavy and you don't have a good combination for getting Origination going (which I find is the case if I've got Aphro on my attack) it's pretty invaluable.

I guess it'd vary by weapon but my initial instinct on magic regen is Hera >>> Zeus > Demeter > Apollo > Hestia > Ares > Aphro >>> Heph > Poseidon

Ares if you get his legendary is pretty good but otherwise, meh. I might overvalue Born Gain but it's just great to have a magic regen you don't need to think or worry about (until you realize you miscalculated lol)

for Demeter's, I used to hate the idea of standing perfectly still but if you get a pom or two into it it's not that long, and can't go wrong getting a full refill...

Zeus's doesn't seem that good to me, but maybe I just don't try hard enough when getting it (I've only ever gotten it once or twice). Apollo's is definitely great, as is Demeter's. Poseidon's confuses me, but yeah, prolly not that good.

Hestia's is actually my favorite. Feels great with torches in particular. I'd take it over Hera for a lot of builds.

Born Gain scares me a bit, I'm always worried I'll end up priming everything in a boss fight since I pretty much never go out of my way for magic. I also don't think I stand still enough to get much use out of Demeter's. Hestia and Apollo are my go-tos. Tough Gain is also pretty good for how I play, even a little damage reduction is nice and it's one I don't have to think about much.

Yeah you have to invest a little into max mp with Born Gain but I also think it's easily the best. And if you have Heph in your pool it's not even a waste since he has that Mp->hp conversion boon. The only competitor to Hera's is Ares, and his is weird because it's fairly mediocre unless you invest deep into his boons and then it becomes insane.

I would then put Apollo and Hestia on a tier of their own, you rarely have issues with them but it does happen.

Zeus, Aphrodite, and Demeter are all in the good but annoying tier. Their downsides aren't a problem in certain builds, like with Aphrodite's I'm either highly valuing the debuff or on a spammy build taking advantage of her huge....numbers. Demeter's should be good but I'm scared to take it and stand still in the endgame.

Heph I will only take if it's high rarity for the damage reduction and even then I dont want to.

Poseidon F tier alongside activating the regen arcana on purpose

Yeah, I've been in a position before where I've run out of magic and I'm dependent on incurring damage to get a refill, just not fun... even if I do get hit pretty often with some weapons it just doesn't have the degree of reliability of the others (besides Poseidon).

Zeus, it's an instant full magic refill and even the boon's common status it typically refreshes before you run out of magic so it's an easy pom skip vs some of the other ones that I'd want to boost. Benefit of full refill outweighs the downside of having to find it on the battlefield imo.

There are some fights where you basically have to stand still, like Prometheus and Charon. Even Typhon has sections where you're basically just waiting.

Haven't been able to play very much - just made it to Typhon for the first time since launch and died horribly because Born Gain completely gassed out on my extremely Omega-centric build at the start of the final phase, even with a decent amount of max mana. That's certainly topical!

Far from it! It's obviously a ridiculously good boon generally speaking, and it's actually nice to be reminded that it's not a completely obvious pick-up and that there are some scenarios where something else might conceivably work better.

Got done in by Typhon's tail stupid attack that hit for 80 damage a piece should be illegal. >_>

Max rivals for both routes done. Luckily I had a ton of health and a busted set up for Chronos backed Typhon because that that was wacky

Oh I didnt realize the trigger for the hidden aspects was to max out any of the non-melinoe aspects. Time to stop hoarding my nightmares

You have to also talk to the right person for each one after that.

Does one have to be maxed, or do you just have to spend a certain amount of nightmares on that weapon between the aspects? In the first game it was just based on how many Titans Blood were spent

And the unlock dialogue can also be buried in the dialogue queue so might take some time to be revealed, in my case still waiting for staff unlock and made the mistake of wearing the character's keepsake when talking to them which triggered that dialogue so gotta wait another run...

Also I'm north of 50 nights and still haven't gotten to epilogue yet, no wonder it came so fast in my early access file I had basically exhausted every character interaction, damn.

Man the credits song is so damn good

But it's a real shame that Apollo doesn't come along with Artemis to sing it with her and Melinoe in the crossroads

I would do a roughly even number of up and down. You'll get told at the end of the run if you need to go and do the other one.

Either way is fine. Just play the routes that have ingredients you need for stuff you want. In terms of plot progression it'll let you know

now can I 100% the game in 39 nights.... probably not (too many damn kudos needed) but the fallback will be adding the chaos stone runs onto that total I guess.

It's actually kind of tilting me that this was in early access for a year and this is somehow still in the game in this state

I have literally never had a problem with this from day 1 early access, sounds like a controller issue

I don't think so? But also I really have no idea? It made me rethink if I actually knew which button was ZL. The prompt for ZL appears. I press and hold ZL for like half a second. I fail.

You have to hold the button down until the prompt disappears.

Am I supposed to let go of the first button, press nothing until second prompt appears, and then press a second button? I've never gotten to a second prompt appearing.

You hold the first button, then switch to holding the next button which shows up. I get finding it a bit weird, I didn't get it at all the first few times.

I pretty much stayed on Frog until I was done farming Grasp, yeah

I also had trouble with that when I used a third party controller. I pressed on the equivalents of L1 and R1 on PS controllers. Turns out it wants L2 and R2 instead.

That raises a funny point actually, is anyone else playing on mouse & keyboard?

I ended up playing the first Hades this way and kept it going with this game. There are some legit pros and cons to both control styles (controller has fuller range of motion but M&K can aim & attack while moving in ways that controller can't) but it just feels so damn excellent to me with Attack, Special, Cast and Dodge all mapped to mouse buttons.

Compelling shades has now worked for me 1/6 tries

I didn't do anything differently. It just recognized that I was holding the button. On the next run I failed again.

Got the regular credits today. I saw a lot of people posting dissatisfaction about the ending and I just dont see the problem, unless what theyre complaining about is still further down the line.

Ending

Pretty sure the bulk of the discourse is about the normal ending yeah. People do not like the Chronos redemption or how it's done, though I think this is exaggerated because people have been playing early access for over a year saying 'Death to Chronos' only for him to not die lol.

Personally I'm not a fan either, more than anything it feels like they had no idea how to end the game in a way that let you keep doing runs and tried to have their cake and eat it too while dropping a lot of plot threads. I also think Chronos is a better character as a villain? I'm trying to keep an open mind as I work to the epilogue but the post-game just feels flimsy. ALL that said, it doesnt impact the gameplay at all so it's not a huge issue for me the way it seems to be for a lot of people, lol. Personal disclosure: the 'redeem your shitty family' trope was my least favorite part of Hades 1 too!

I don't mind the ending (spoilers for it), I do mind the pacing, it came absolutely out of nowhere. It's absolute whiplash, I barely needed to beat Chronos, like 4-5 times and he's suddenly Good Now, with about 5 minutes of actually showing how that happened? I understand a big complaint with the original game was just how much you needed to run to actually finish the game, and I also understand that they doubled the number of locations you needed to go to which makes the matter worse. But it makes the ending itself feel very abrupt when you don't get to see Chronos' change beyond the one (very cute) cutscene.

However, on a character route ending note (non-specific major spoilers), so many of them got done dirty, and I haven't quite gotten the epilogue, but I'm beginning to feel there will be no greater overarching resolution to the plot about how the gods suck. Like, most endings just feel unsatisfying and what Melinoe actually does, doesn't reflect the dialogue in the same way it did in Hades. Zagreus felt like someone with a kinda fucked up family trying to do better and succeeding, Melinoe also feels like someone who wants to be decent to people but doesn't know how, and never really learns or succeeds. Which results in a wet fart of a storyline ending on pretty much every occasion I have gotten to this point.

Unrivaled Prometheus was a great fight. Having Hera boons suddenly becomes pretty useful there!

Finally got some time to play this weekend - add me to the Typhon-slaying club as well! My launch file has officially surpassed where I was in early access with this (mostly seeing as that boss didn't exist yet, but my overall meta progress is now further along too) - now to keep on playing and work towards the ending. Game is way too fun, it's been living rent free in my head all week and it's such a joy to play.

I'm still a long way to go from slaying Typhon. Died to Prometheus just now. Ah well, there's no time limit and I'm still enjoying my runs.

Particularly when I ran across (mid-late game God/Goddess spoiler) Athena, took her Dash boon, and she said it was Zagreus's favorite boon. Heh.

That dash boon seems not too useful here, oddly enough. Maybe if you really actively try to use it, but it's nothing compared to how good it used to be.

Died to Prometheus, and then Eye of Typhon.

Why is the surface ten times harder orz

Surface is only unlocked once you have a decent amount of power, so it makes sense to me that it's harder.
