Wondering because I received a cold call from a recruiter and he was asking about my current work, but he wanted to know my direct managers name

I declined to disclose the department I work in and manager because I felt it was too much information. Also the call was unexpected

Does anyone feel there sometimes job recruiters can ask for too much information and pry? Also they are somewhat inconsiderate to a person's time, it seems they don't keep in mind that they are calling during working hours so my mind may not be focused on the recruitment process or other opportunities in that moment ...

I would never disclose that and that would basically end the process altogether if they asked.

The default is do not contact anyone that works for my current company, let alone my manager.

Yeah I feel nervous now that he even knows the company I work for, and what day to day looks like as far as the job (although I did my best to be vague)

The opportunity sounded like a good opportunity it was 100% remote so I'm kinda feeling a little bad about that like I may have fumbled it, but I just wasn't comfortable with some of the questions being asked of me. So I let him know I was comfortable with the job I'm currently at and that I didn't want to start the interview process up and waste anyone's time.

I might have considered it though had I not felt nervous about the invasive questions

Yeah, that sounds exceptionally sketchy and would assume a part of a phishing scam.

what kinds of questions did they ask that made you uncomfortable?

you should basically never be uncomfortable during a job interview. you can be nervous or whatever but they shouldn't make u uncomfortable.

Just the recruiter asking details about my manager at my current position mainly. He's from a recruiting agency, he said they work with others at my place of employment so he may know them. Overall he may have been making small talk, but regardless just the question made me uncomfortable.

I'm glad I didn't accidentally tell him any names, or disclose certain other things about my position. I actually feel somewhat uncomfortable about the information that I did share

I just wouldn't want my current employment to be sabotaged accidentally and who knows what notes are written down internally about my employment details as a candidate. I don't want to accidentally get fired because my current job thinks I'm looking for other opportunities
