Kinda shaking. Just called the cops tbh no way in hell am I answering the door LMAO and he was out there for like ten minutes

And yeah I'm being paranoid AF but I live on restricted federal territory so people interacting with my house at this time of the morning is a huge warning flag

It means it's under the justification of a federal police force and while it's available to the public there are some additional restrictions on what you're allowed to have or carry around here. It's a military housing community.

Cops are talking to the guy, they say it's a worker from the housing office filling a work order but ... It's 3 AM. And I definitely don't have a work order in. Also they're still talking. Just seems fishy af.

Edit I can see a van from a side window but cannot see any of the housing office markings on it, just looks like a white van

It's possible it is a homeless person but it's off the common homeless routes here. Like there are specific trails and parks the homeless go to.

Not really, the peephole is rather restricting.

So the cops just drove away and then the van drove away so maybe it was just a maintenance worker responding to an emergency call. I did hear them mention calling the company to confirm the story.

I feel marginally bad but ultimately nothing happened and I'm not gonna risk my family's safety. I already feel uncomfortable about people knocking/ringing in general but if it's a reasonable time of day I'll deal with it. But not at this time of day fuck that.

I appreciate that they didn't just walk over to my house afterwards and signal me out even though I'm sure the guy knows. But they also didn't call me back to confirm, which I guess is also fine since the dispatcher already called back during the stop and said that's probably it. Just weird there's no close-out call.

they wouldve found out first hand about the state my spine is in and send me right back home.

Did you end up pursuing a career similar to the job you were looking at in the Navy? Or going a completely different direction?

Reminds me of the time I was housesitting by myself and someone stepped onto my parents' front deck around 2am. I'm pretty sure they tried outright opening the door, because I heard the handle jiggle a bit amid my parents' dogs raising hell.

I should have called the cops, but whoever it was seemingly ran off pretty quickly, probably after hearing the dogs. I kind of shudder to think about what they were planning if it wasn't locked.

Regardless, glad your situation resolved peacefully enough.

There's a maintenance note, says the guy stopped for emergency maintenance but no one was home / answered the door.

The kicker / annoying part - the name on the address is not us. Also I've received mail for this person in the past.

So someone called it in, or the maintenance guy was maybe trying to comb empty houses using this as an excuse?

Idk, I find it weird that the name has been used for mail, too. Unless the people who moved in just have no clue about basic life skills and didn't think to make sure they are entering the right address for things.

business interactions should be late morning only. not at 3am (that's chocolate pudding time).

Now I just got a text message from one of the people i work with trying to reach his daughter or something. The weird thing there is the message is in a different language and he used the formal form of You but asks the person he messaged to "call Dad"... Wtf

That's really weird. Is that wrong address nearby? I know my mom sometimes gets mail for the house on the next street over. Same number, but different street (ie 123 10th Street vs 123 11th Street)

That's a good guess, I had that at my last house since the numbers and street names were nearly identical.

Out here all the streets have very distinctive names, so I don't know how they could get them confused. Also the mail specifically has my address.

I think I told the story before. I had a tresspasser at 2am in the morning. I had 100 acres so seeing a flashlight anywhere is suspect. I know people did pass through my back pastures at night. Never came up to the house though. Anyway I see it just zipping around. So I go over which was not a good idea. See he was on my side of the fence. My neighbors who had both died in years previous had no one to take care of their property. So scavengers moved in. My neighbor had a trailer parked next to my fence. They tore down my fence to get to it. I repeatedly called the police about it. They said they would patrol. I sadly was on the city limits. So the police never got that far to look around. So anyway I tell the tresspasser to remove himself. They refuse. I said begone in 10 mins and you are still here cops will be called. I did the rest of my patrol to make sure there wasnt anybody else. He was still there. I went to the house grabbed my pistol and called the police. I watched from my window while they pulled up on his location. Sadly couldn't see much but flashlights. They took him in. Cop comes up and asks do you want to charge him for tresspassing. I said no. He said its ok. They found other evidence to put him in jail for.

Years ago some lady moved into my apt complex and used my address. No clue how or why, as it would be very hard accidentally use my apt number. In any case, for years I kept getting her mail, and even after a long while of not receiving anything, I got some of her mail last week.
