Maybe Jared Leto will finally stop getting work

Leto was already a toxic brand, but now that his own self-produced movie with him as lead has bombed too I wonder if finally hollywood will stop picking up the phone when he calls, even if he's bringing his own money to the table.

Every Tron movie bombed. Idk why they thought a Jared Leto led Tron movie in 2025 would be the silver bullet for a franchise that has literally never been successful

Many would like to throw tomatoes at Disney for the casting, that theres zero audience attraction for the likes of Leto, Lee, etc. First, despite tabloid headlines about Leto, such noise doesnt factor into moviegoers decisions to buy or not buy a ticket; it could be argued most were not even in the know of the June Air Mailexpos on his alleged behavior.

this part is really underestimating how much people dislike Lego imo, even putting allegations aside

if all those bad things happen maybe it means I shouldn't support a company like Disney to begin with

That's too bad. Despite Jared Leto, I quite enjoyed the movie and the soundtrack was amazing.

Nothing wrong with bringing Tron back, just that Disney sucks these days when it comes to producing live films.

Just like how most their star wars films, and the newer marvel films are all subpar.

Tron is 3 for 3 on box office flops. I don't understand why they keep trying to bring this series back.

They had a 3rd movie called Ascension that heavily tied into Legacy but it kept getting delayed and was cancelled (IIRC it was in limbo for like a decade). Leto basically told Disney he'd cover the remaining cost to keep it going so they let him do it, and then he had writers scrap everything and turn his character, who was the bad guy of the old draft, into the main character. The forced disconnect from the prior draft is also likely why TRON doesn't appear in TRON and why the prior cast is mostly absent.

So the movie literally only exists due to Leto, the script is entirely what Leto wanted, and the result is what anyone would have expected. I guess from Disney's perspective it was already sunk cost on Ascension so if Leto was covering costs it was low risk since the franchise was, at that point, already dead in their eyes.

A $150M loss will not lead to any of those things. Disney made over 90 billion dollars last year. This isnt even the biggest bomb they've ever had. They lost like $250M on John Carter. Indiana Jones 5 was also a huge loss.

Also Avatar 3 and Zootopia 2 are about to make a couple billion for them.

What this does mean is there won't be any more Tron movies.

Leto has always been box office poison, even before it came out that he's a creepy predator, and Tron has never been a hit. Wasting a quarter of a billion on this movie was flat out stupid.

Who is even going to see this movie? When you base a movie off a piece of media you are doing so to bring in mostly fans of the product. I wouldn't think many people under 50 have even played Tron and Tron came out when gamers were still considered Hella nerdy and gaming was nowhere near as big as it is today. Basically I could only see this being interesting to a small chunk of Gen X. I think I've played Tron maybe a handful of times and I'm fucking 40.

I wouldn't think many people under 50 have even played Tron and Tron came out when gamers were still considered Hella nerdy and gaming was nowhere near as big as it is today. Basically I could only see this being interesting to a small chunk of Gen X. I think I've played Tron maybe a handful of times and I'm fucking 40.

I would wager that most Tron fans haven't played the original game, which came out after the movie. The movie was the original property and is the focal point of the fandom. I got my start seeing the 2010 sequel, loved it, and then watched the original.

They probably thought that people that liked the Tron ride at Disney World would check it out. It is a pretty popular roller coaster in the park.

I would honestly rather rewatch Crystal Skull than Dial of Destiny. On paper 5 is the better movie, but it's just depressing watching 80 year old Indiana Jones just shuffle along and not actually do anything in a movie that has his name on it.

It doesn't help that movie tickets cost upwards of $20 during a time people are scraping change just to pay the monthly essentials.

100%. After hearing everyone say this movie is a must-see in IMAX, I ended up seeing it at my small local theater. 2 tickets cost $18, while in IMAX it was $60.
