LoM goes for ~$20 loose so I could pick up another copy if it came to it. On one hand I dont want to bother. On the other, I have never tried on disc removal before, so have to try sometime right?

At least its not like Tron Bonne or something like that.

If I do attempt this Ill of course report back to CE on how it goes.

I did already test it and confirm its working now as-is.

That's on the actual disc, and not the case? But like. Why.

Does the game run with the sticker on? If so, I say let sleeping dogs lie

Ope. You beat me to it. I'd just leave it as is

Those monsters. Behold and witness, true evil.

...I would try to remove it, personally, but I am known to make extremely foolish decisions at times.
Might be better to let sleeping stickers lie.

What an absolute idiot/scumbag to put the sticker on the disc

There are safe ways to remove it if you really want to

Mineral oil or (unscented) baby oil is good for removing adhesive, and I feel like it would be safe to dab it on the sticker without damaging the disk. But I probably wouldn't touch it anyway.

Tron Bonne goes for ~$250 disc only. Itd be insanity to attempt to remove a sticker from that.

Im leaning toward iso alcohol. Goo Gone has been suggested, but that stuff is so corrosive I feel itd eat right into the data layer. I like it for disc cases and other hard surfaces, but tend to avoid it on anything paper or sensitive.

Iso tends to be a lot more tolerable on most surfaces. But less effective, as a result.

I would also try Undu, but some were saying dont use lighter fluid. I dunno test another disc is winning but I have quite a few junk CDs it couldnt hurt to try the stuff on first. So Ill definitely do that. Undu is great for paper surfaces though. I much prefer it to Goo Gone for that.

I would think that Goo Gone wouldn't affect the data from the top side of the disk? Am I mistaken? (Unless of course you accidentally get it on the bottom side.)
It might remove the design on top the disc though. Wouldn't shock me in the least.

Reason to not remove it: the history surrounding an old piece of media is often more interesting to collectors than the media itself.

Reason you should remove it: stickers fuck up a disc's balance and can lead to damage on playback.

Tests went well, and it would seem that lighter fluid (Undu) is perfectly fine to use.

Going to test it again tomorrow, but as long as youre not ripping off the label and tearing the disc itself off of it, gentle does the trick.

It would seem GameStop likely ruined it. Based on the original case.

Used PS1 games are fun though, since they clean up nicely. Take off the sticker, throw it in a new jewel case, and it looks nearly good as new. The eBay seller had it discounted quite a bit even due to the imperfections. The disc has some minor surface scratches, but even then they arent so bad.

I found a post in the Reddit rabbit hole that mentioned for CDs, yes the data layer is in the top side of the disc. So top surface scratches could kill the disc.

For DVDs though the data layer is in the middle.

Or something along those lines.
