I know people hate tipping in general, but how does it make any sense to give someone more for brining you a steak than for bringing you a sandwich

I think it's more about larger orders than simply more expensive orders. What you described is just an unfortunate side effect.

There is nothing wrong with tipping. My rule of thumb is that if I paid for the foot after I ate it, then I will tip 20%.

I only do roundup tipping now, out of convenience to me; unless the bill is like $19.99 so they'd only get a 1 cent tip then I bail

In this scenario I would pay $25.

Am I understanding this wrong or do you never tip more than a dollar?

if it's like $15 I'll round up to a $20, cuz I have a $20. If it's like $19.99 I'm not paying $40

Its even more stupid when it comes to tipping doctors and landlords. Like I get it, you want your doctor to provide a good service so you tip to show thank you but these days its like they expect it.

Well that one hit my maximum weird factor right out the gate.

20% is so much now. Since it's hard to get out of a restaurant for under $100. You're tipping another 20 on top of that.

At least with the doctor you get to slide it into the top of their pants and pat their ass.

There is still tips after this.

The staff not paid wages thing is America only. And yet tipping still happens in many countries.

I mean tipping culture will not change whatsoever after they announce tipped workers are entitled to full minimum wage.

Well, minimum wage with no tips wont keep servers and bartenders around. The job is too demanding for minimum wage. Servers and bartenders make bank off of tips. Bartenders often times make more money than the managers and probably sometimes the GMs lol

Scratch that, they definitely sometimes make more than the GMs

They may make a lot of money, but they also usually have a LOT of college debt. You have to go to school for a LONG time to get an MD.

Four years undergraduate, four years medical school, and 1-3 years for specialties, plus 3-9 years internship and residency. It can easily take 20 years before you become a fully qualified doctor and start raking in those big paychecks. You'll almost never find a non-resident doctor younger than 30.

(Median pay in 2024 was $239,000 per year.)

I'd try it with a cheap steak. Seems like a great way to ruin a good steak.

Brining pork chops is just the best. So god damn good

For steak, it's recommended to use a dry brine.

Technically they are contractors, not staff, and they agree to their own contracts.
That loophole is harder to close.

I always try to give a good tip when I've gone to restaurants. Sometimes in the past, with my tax refund, I have gone to a restaurant and given my waiter/waitress a $100 cash tip. I also once a few years ago when having had a bad day at my job (I work as a bagger in a grocery store fulltime) cause of being understaffed, went to a restaurant and saw that my waitress was having the same kind of day. I gave her a $27 tip cause of her bad day. Just how I am.
