I've been working on material for almost a month, and I got through the nervousness and shakes and finished the set. I got there early, but was kind of late getting my name on it due to nerves, so there was mostly like 8-10 people by then, mostly from the scene.

It was mostly silent except for a couple that actually landed - not just pity chuckles - but actual laughter from the hosts. I fully expected to bomb because everyone does, but I don't think I was the worst of the night either. Afterwards the people running it were talking to me, gave some advice, and encouraged me to keep coming.

Hey, good job. It takes strength to power through the shakes (has happened to me too), and the fact that you practiced and didn't get booed or heckled is great. You got a few laughs, treasure that. Here's to more sets in the future.

From my experience, people who do stand-up are usually very supportive.

Well at least it was short and dry this time.

Good job, I had material years ago but never did it after realizing it was just me griping about my job at the time for 10 minutes.

congrats, that's a big achievement.

I forget his name (berleyman, or something like that), but a fellow CEman pursued a career in stand-up, and would sometimes post his sets.

It is really cool that you put yourself out there like that. That is very hard to do, but the more you do any kind of speaking or performance in front of people, the easier it gets each time.

I hope there are more sets in your future! And, even if you decide this is the only one you want to do, you should be proud of yourself for overcoming the obstacles to putting your material out into the world. Well done.

I can sympathize with you man.

I was the same with my first piano recital. I'm fine with public speech when people are kind of forced to be there and captive. But when people go there to be entertained and see something good there's...just something different about that pressure in my head that just has me absolutely nervous. You GOTTA deliver. My first one went well and now it's just all about figuring out what you need to do to get in the zone. Whether it's come up with your best jokes first to get laughs and get comfy or just build up time on stage.

For me what builds up confidence and removes my anxiety/nerves is just time on stage. So playing easier pieces to start with that I don't even care if I fuck up to build time on stage and getting over the nerves lets me play my "harder" pieces that I've practiced hundreds of times with no issues, actually with no issue.

Props for going up and surviving and doing it. Hope you've learned and know it's hard to put your soul and ego on the line for the entertainment of others.

It feels more like an art since it's a creative outlet, but it might be closer to a science right now for me because I still haven't figured out science.
