Technically, MK2 has the first 1-button fatality as you had to hold down one of the punch buttons for the whole fight while fighting as Shang Tsung but regardless, a 1-button fatality is a far different situation than the auto combos you get in some fighting games.

As I stated, the fight is already over. Why does it even matter if it's a single input or 20 inputs. I think the only case where something like this might, and I use the very loosest definition of might here, make a difference is if you use a mercy.

No. Supers actually affect the match. Fatalities don't affect anything. This is like being mad about one button taunts.

You literally said that it pisses you off in post 4 of this topic.

It's also just a completely false equivalence as supers are used during the match and fatalities are used for style points after the match is over. Mercy is really the only exception to that I can think of as they can start the match back up again.

That said, you have never even stated why it matters so much and should be limited to casual lobbies. In what way would this affect the competitive community?

No that's not what it's about. Back in the arcade days you would be showing off to the people behind you when you pulled it off in a time when you didn't have access to the moves in the pause menu because, among other things, there was no pause menu. People watching might not even know how to do the fatality.

With the sequences out in the open for everyone to see, there's not really an important need to make the inputs any harder than 1 button.

I doubt they're doing that of course, since it seems like these games are largely being ported as is, but even if they did, I don't see why it would be a big deal.

There are 2 times I pulled off a fatality on my own as a kid without any kind of looking up move lists. War Gods on N64. I figured out Cy-5's fatality on my own just by playing a lot and was able to pull it off consistently. And then I accidentally did Sub-Zero's in MKM:SZ by mashing all the inputs randomly.

Updates incoming...

An Online Arcade feature is currently in development, which will give players the opportunity to create private or public rooms, select the games they want to play, and invite friends to join in. Each room can host up to 16 players, and multiple games can be played simultaneously; think of it as your personal Mortal Kombat game room, filled with just the games you love most (including multiples of any given game so if you want two or three instances of the same game in your lobby, you can do that!). On individual games within the room, players rotate playing in a classic arcade winner stays queue structure or they can choose to simply spectate.

This lobby feature is much more robust than Quick Match and is more ambitious than what Digital Eclipse has done in its previous games, so it demands additional testing both internally and from external partners before its ready for players to enjoy. We expect this feature to be added via an update within a few weeks after launch, but this is dependent on internal and first-party approval timeframes, which can vary between platforms. Keep an eye on our socials for updates.

Also in the weeks that follow launch, The Krypt will be expanded with a new feature: The Khronicle of the Realms. This special illustrated history explains and explores the epic conflicts depicted in the first four arcade games and gives all fans a clear, concise record of the battles between Outworld, Earthrealm, Edenia, and more. This will be added in a future update at no additional cost.
