I wouldn't say I "hate" it, but I'm never huge on having something I'm used to doing myself done for me like that, especially when it's adding human interaction to a task that doesn't usually involve it at all.

I've never been to a place that does that since I was a little kid when gas was around 80 cents per gallon.

if you've never had it done, it's just kinda weird

it's completely different than if it's someone you're with helping out by pumping it or something, a complete stranger doing it is just a little uncomfortable

I've never had an attendant pump gas for me. None of the gas stations I've been to offer that service.

can't remember if I've ever gotten gas in new jersey or not, but I don't think I'd care. I work at a gas station and while its not my job to pump people's gas, I've done it for a few older people.

1) It's not a great service
2) "It creates jobs" shouldn't be used as an excuse for jobs that don't need to exist.

Who hates it? Is that really a thing?

Plus nobody in New Jersey pumps their own gas.

I've never had a gas attendant do that. My state is self service. I don't think I'd mind if someone did it and it was their job, but I could see how it might be an inconvenience if you were in a hurry. Faster to do it yourself then.

The point is that i dont need someone to do it for me and sometimes I wanna drive home from work, pump my gas, and not have a needless interaction with someone because im not allowed to do it myself

'No'

The system wouldn't have made sense for me anyway, since most of the time I don't fill up as much as put in just enough gas to get home. Filling up my tank is a luxury expense.

I said no but I can't drive a car. Though every person I have known my whole life pumped their own gas. I have never even seen a gas station employee outside at all unless they were emptying the trash. I was born in the late 80s. I grew up in Southern Illinois though so that maybe why.

It's interacting with a human. It's not a particularly involved interaction, by any means, but it's infinitely more than 0 words.

I've only been to a single gas station where they were full service only. They couldn't find the gas tank on my car. I had to get out and show them where it was hidden under the license plate.

When I was a kid in the 80s most gas stations had self serve and full serve pumps. The latter was usually more expensive, and I rarely ever saw anyone using them. I haven't seen a full service pump since the early 90s.

It's a similar situation for me. When I was little, many gas stations had self service and full service sections. My parents always chose to pump gas themselves. They said that it's unnecessary to waste time and money for someone to do what they can do themselves. As I got older, full service began to disappear, so by the time I learned to drive, it no longer existed.
