Salrite posted... Any other proper platformer you can theoretically do just as well the first time because you're presented with all the visual information you need.Yeah and this is true for Sonic as well. Sonic absolutely gives you all the visual info you need. Salrite posted... you can't possibly know where the path you choose will take you until after you've experienced it over and over. Why would this be a problem? Each path leads to the end of the stage. Salrite posted... A perfect run (without any pause in momentum) can ONLY be done on a replay.Yeah and I don't see a problem with this... I'd say this actually applies to most good platformers. adjl posted... There's some truth to that, but because other platformers don't put quite so much emphasis on speed, that learning curve is more consistently fun. A lot of older Sonic levels fall more toward "this will be fun once I figure it out well enough to go fast," while other platformers manage "figuring this out is fun, and it'll be even more fun once I figure it out well enough to go fast." The flip side, of course, is that once you figure out the Sonic levels, they're designed to let you go super fast and feel awesome, so there is a payoff that isn't necessarily there in a lot of other platformers. The road to get there just isn't the greatest. That's fair, but I think Genesis Sonic can be plenty fun to learn. These games are actually pretty forgiving, especially compared to a lot of other 8 and 16-bit platformers. You're nearly invulnerable in ball form. You can take all the hits and, as long as you hold on to at least 1 ring, you won't loose a life. Honestly a lot of the time you can totally afford to be a little reckless in these games. ... I play Sonic 3 & Knuckles all the time, its a really fun game with great music. There is no problem with going too slow. And the game has a a lot of iconic and fun sections that arent even running. For example escaping the wall in Hydrocity Zone, riding the spinny thing in Marble Garden Zone. And that is just Sonic 3 --- Four bells were tolled, Four torches were lit And the world continued for thousands of years... ... Copied to Clipboard!

plus the pace breaking moments in sonic 3 feel better; technically speaking the spinners and yoyos and water currents are pace breakers, but you aren't demotivated by them the same was as Marble Zone's crushers and lava flows --- "Salt cures Everything!"
