Donald Trump on Sunday shared a fabricated claim about Barack Obama, amplifying a debunked conspiracy that the former president has received royalties from the Affordable Care Act. On Truth Social, Trump posted a screenshot that read, #BREAKING: DOGE halts yearly payment of $2.5 million to Barack Obama for royalties linked to Obamacare. Obama has collected this payment since 2010, for a total of $40 million in taxpayer dollars, adding a one-word caption: WOW!

I think it is equally possible that he either knows it isn't true or doesn't care, and is sharing it because he knows people will believe it.

Problem is that almost half the country will believe this as fact. Not like Trump will come out and say he was wrong ever.

Don't think dementia has anything to do with his fake posts. I just think he not that smart. Also looking stuff up to verify things would be work.

The thing that's important to try and understand about Trump and his base is that they don't actually think in terms of "true" or "false", their belief system is based on whatever benefits them or makes them feel good to treat as though it were true. Trying to explain the concept of objective reality to them is like trying to explain sight to a blind person.

He has the resources of the presidency at this disposal. He could get other people to fact check these things for him if he cared whether he was sharing misinformation or not, but he doesn't care.

People believe what they want to believe. Trump could record himself in a Nazi uniform, throwing out sig heils, and his supporters would call it a deep fake.
