It was fun and painful

I had their 2x Spicy Ramen on Saturday night. I personally think most their other products have a pleasant amount of spice but the 2x is a lot.

I typically have a few 2x spicy ramen in the pantry, they're nicely spicy.

I was working my way up to 2x but something changed with tastebuds recently and I'm a lot less tolerant to spice, not sure what happened but I'm down to 1x now and I need a fair bit of milk to get through it. 1x is a rare case where the extreme level of spice is worth the effort because the flavor is so good. 2x retains some good flavor but at that point the suffering outweighs the flavor imo. And the reason I was trying to build up was to more casually tank spicy thai food. 1x got me to a point where I could actually finish the plate with some difficulty so i'd hoped that 2x would build my tolerance to the point where i could just eat the food no problem.

Usually the cause of this is simply not having eaten sufficiently spicy food for a few months.

Can happen easily enough if you just aren't actively trying to maintain spice tolerance. Or if you aren't a lunatic like me who goes out of his way to make most meals spicy.

Nah it was like a sudden switch. It's also weirdly selective, as some foods I used to never find spicy now are. Like paprika is now a spice I can only handle in moderate amounts when there used to be no limit to it, but other spices like Tabasco or Buldak 1x behave as normal. Like. Fast food spice can sometimes be too much on some days but on others I can do ultra-spicy curry. No clue what's happening. I think it might be something medical or more likely dental but I only very recently got dental coverage back so I haven't been able to get checked out.

That's exceptionally odd, hope you figure it out.

I love spicy food (mostly Indian curries), but the words 'artificial spicy chicken flavour' are not tempting me.

It actually does taste alright, though it has nothing on Indian curries. Man, I could really go for a nice vindaloo right now.

Put an egg in it, some shrimps and add some veggies like chopped up green onions and cilantro into it. Put some lime juice in it as well. Should make the spice a bit more tolerable.

My daughter likes the carbonara (there's 2 kinds, she likes both but I don't know if she prefers the cheese or cream). I personally like the curry flavour even if it's not as hot as the 2x spicy.

I used to eat this fairly regularly. it's amazing.

What do these taste like? Always been interested but am a super picky eater. The red sauce looks like it might taste good but no idea what it is or what it might taste like beyond hella spicy.

milk doesn't do shit.

i love the regular black buldak ramen. Its right on the line between this is too spicy too eat and its so good I cant stop eating it.

I think I tried the red one once, either it was so spicy that I couldnt taste correctly, or I just prefer the way the black one tastes.

I love the 2x spicy one and its my go to pack ramen. Apparently theres a 3x spicy, too. But Ive never seen that in the store. I would love to try it eventually though.

Ironically, the processed noodles do more damage to my gut than the sauce. I buy the standalone sauces when they go on sale at the market.

I'm not sure I've even heard of it before. If it's as spicy as this topic suggests, that might be for the best! I like various spicy foods, but my stomach grows increasingly temperamental with age. Too much acid. Way too much. A genetic curse. So I have to be more careful with what I eat these days. Still, I am curious...

It's not overly acidic. I also find if something is entirely too acidic that it gives me acid reflux in my sleep which really sucks but this ramen does not trigger it for me.

Yeah Buldak is spicy but it isn't the kind that necessarily causes an upset stomach or anything, provided you normally don't get irritated by spicy things.

This is also unrelated to anything else but most Buldak products are completely vegetarian. When they say artificial chicken, they mean it.

I have had a worse time with the copious amounts of milk I sometimes drink to power through it than I have the noodles themselves. My personal ranking in flavor is

1. Either Carbo version
2. Classic Buldak (sometimes ranks 1 if I specifically want spicy)
3. Rose (sometimes ranks 1 or 2 if I don't want spicy)

Anything else can be really hit or miss. I consider 2X to be the same as Classic, just depends on how hot you want.

It's more tomato-y. I don't know if it's less spicy but they're about the same level I think. You can always replace the broth-water with a bit of milk if you need to cut the spice down.

3x had me drooling and snot running out of my nose into the sink for a solid 10 minutes after I finished the bowl.

I had my first bowl on saturday. Buldak isnt my favorite but it was pretty good, i liked the texture. it was spicy but not too overbearing for me. i drank the sauce left in the bowl after i ate the noodles lol
i normally eat Shin Ramyun

I had one of those that lit me the fuck up, but I remember absolutely nothing about the brand or packaging.

Especially because it tasted like shit.

Made ramen tonight with leftovers from football grilling on Sunday. My buddy bought 96 oysters so I picked the leftovers. Shin Ramyun Black with oysters, chicken wing meat, chorizo as kind of a spicy chashu, and scotch egg garnish.

Shin is normal and versatile. Buldak is for when you are in a *mood*. And the gimmicky Buldaks are literal memes. They gotta be, right?

That's how I explain them to myself, anyways.

I had the rose for dinner tonight for the first time. It was hardly spicy and had a strong taste of bacon. It was okay, but I don't think I'd buy it again.
