That's why consoles are going to be walled gardens, as they call it. So, they can charge you a premium and you have no alternative to get it elsewhere (see: Nintendo in particular, though to get round that, the used market for Nintendo crap is thriving, so you always break even.)
As long as online stores remain, and cross-country trading remains (thank you EU), then PC gaming should remain relatively free of too many barriers pushing the prices up.
IMO though, no game is ever worth 80+ and barely any of them are worth 50 tbh. There's enough whales out there though to keep things thriving. I play a f2p MMO at the moment, and the MTX's on that is now 100 for a bundle, or 20+ for a single item. They're turning a profit too, just from the whales. Makes me wonder if they'd make even more money, were they to price it more reasonably tbh.
