Turtles has been a franchise with so many incarnations that it has a long lasting appeal, even if the 80s Turtles show didnt quite as much sustained quality episodes as the old Duck Tales tbh. Its hard to beat a juggernaut like that with nostalgia across toys, comics, video games, films, multiple tv series. And the 80s versions were the versions a lot of the people who would vote on 80s toons were probably introduced to the franchise with and consider particularly iconic.
I loved it back then and even have to admit the old Duck Tales probably had more good episodes, but thats a hard wall to climb.
Also James Averys Shredder is just so great the way he nailed both menacing and ridiculous. Hes by far my favorite Shredder actor and I would have loved him to play Shredder in a more serious yet not entirely grimdark version of the show...
