monkmith posted... the early ones were crap because the CDC sent out contaminated controls. right now though the PCR test has something like a 98% accuracy. its false positive rate is functionally 0, its inaccuracy comes from false negatives.
the problem is that PCR tests in the US have a turnaround time of something like 3 to 5 days. which means that by the time you've gotten your results you've likely started showing symptoms and have blown past the asymptomatic infectious stage.
My lab does same-day/next day results depending on what time of day the sample is received
