Former JW here as well.

Never baptized, but raised as one. My mom is an inactive JW and refused to let her kids be baptized until we turned 18 since it was an adult choice to make. She was disfellowshipped in her 20's and her granparents who raised her cut ties with her for 10 years until she cameback.

I have two bros and a sister who were brought up in it. One bro is inactive and never baptized, the other bro is disfellowshipped, and my sister is baptized, married and a pioneer.

I personally left at age 17 (24 now) because I'm bisexual, but I have a preference for dating men. I also didnt' like some of the undertones I saw, like telling kids not to make friends at public school, because they're not their real friends (they're too worldly).

Or their take on never looking at "apostate literature" (literature that speaks negatively on the organization or is increasingly anti-JW). They said it could corrupt you and turn you against the religion. But I always felt that, if somethings they say are true, shouldn't they we take time to disprove it? Like I felt that shows weakness with us rather than the anti-messages.

Plus there's things like failing to predict Armageddon in 1975 ("Stay alive 75") or failing to report child molestation cases (happened to my mom's friend, they've had to pay millions for this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jehovah%27s_Witnesses%27_handling_of_child_sex_abuse )

I think overall the organization has nice people, but you start to see some of the unsavory elements over time. But they're genuinely helpful to their common neighbor, just don't expect to make long lasting bonds with one if you're not in the religion.
