I'm allergic to insect bites/stings. The affected area swells up pretty badly, but the severity depends on the insect.
An ant bite will swell up and get worse if I scratch it. I've had the affected area range from a centimeter to two - three inches.
I was stung by a bee once as a child on my pinky finger right next to the nail on my right hand. My whole hand and a small part of my wrist was swollen for two weeks.
