I assume they have their reasons for thinking that way, and try not to pry.

I don't know if it applies to other victims, but personally speaking, I tear myself down over my physical appearance all the time as a result of my trauma from sexual abuse. Specifically, the idea that someone might consider me attractive fills me with dread because of what happened the last time someone couldn't keep their eyes (and hands) off of me.

It got to the point where I was doing things on purpose to fuck up my body and make myself increasingly repulsive, whatever it took to make sure nobody would want to be near or touch me again.
