Everyone complains about nu-internet and longs for the wild west days, but beyond typical haranguing on corporations (ubiquitous in ANY discourse in a way that nullifies its relevance), nobody addresses the changes that brought us to this crappy nu-internet we're addicted to but don't enjoy.

This new age of high moderation and directors of policy and finger-to-the-mustache serious business internet has not yielded meaningful results, only worse culture that you suffer more of and higher profit and legitimacy that you don't get to enjoy. Across the board, all this internet authoritarianism has not made a serious dent in bad faith posts, trolling, toxicity, or real world manifestations of violence or exploitation (in fact, exploitation has only been normalized in this highly policed corporatized internet. See: OnlyFans. See: all those high school teens being cancelled into suicide or college rejections by mobs and media types when just 10 years ago internet cancelling was exclusive to 4chan bottom feeders harassing Jessi Slaughter. See: precarious pseudo-slave internet-based gig jobs like instacart). We sold our "internet soul" on the promise of not having to worry our blissfully vacant minds over whether this post or that post was serious or part of a very-devastating-to-our-totally-serious-egos prank to get us to take a joke seriously. Yet we find ourselves scrolling away doing the same bullshit of getting mad at what's essentially made up characters in our head, arguing discourses that haven't once yielded an increase in our material conditions or elevated our cultural consciousness, and falling for the same time sinks such as spotting trolls and bad faith actors on behalf of a mythical impressional populace who's only vanguard between truth and believing bullshit somehow is you heroically shitting yourself in public over the existence of purposefully bad posts or mean posts.

Left or right, up or down, grillpilled or terminally online, serious coup or goofy tantrum, everyone agrees that this current state of the internet sucks and it's no coincidence that we all across the board long for the internet of 20 years ago and we also agree that it looks like it's only going to accelerate further and further in the opposite direction. I just hope every neurotic idiot is happy in this paradigm of sponsored content and guided narrative and brand injection and moderation/site drama and no-fun-allowed dullposting and cancelling and discourse, I can only imagine how fucking interesting all that must be to a person on SSRIs in a highway town who doesn't fuck (everyone, now).
