Be them sea shanties (the jaunty opener Singapore), drinking ditties (the offbeat Tango), funeral dirges (the reflective Time), folksong odysseys (the melodic Gun Street Girl), all of the above (the beguiling Clap Hands), or none of the above (the wistful Hang Down Your Head and the ferocious then vaudeville closer Anywhere I Lay My Head), Tom Waits wrote and composed a set of songs that fit his voice like a good glove on hand while somehow feeling of a kind. Theyre just not entirely my cup of tea.
