I wholly disagree.

Right now, if a corporation wants something, what do they do? Send lobbyists to Washington. If they don't want gay marriage, or if they want some cigarette legislation, whatever, they just send people to Washington. If the power was split up into all the states, they would have to send lobbyists to each state to get what they want.

Let's say that the state officials were bribed by the corporations, then. The residents of the state would be WAY more sensitive to those changes, as they are happening at the state level. The people would be way more intimate with their representatives, and if they sensed corruption, they could vote for a candidate that would inevitably pop up supporting non-corruption.

I agree that it's obviously not a solution to everything, but it's definitely a step in the right direction in the sense that the power of corporations in government would be way more limited by the popular vote of the people, and that could easily snowball into more popular involvement in politics and more political awareness and less apathy, etc.

This. And not only would people generally be more responsive to legislation, politicians, and state regulations because it would be on a more personal level, but people would actually have a choice of "move to a different state that works for them or works better" instead of "move to another country or have to deal with it" if they feel their government is not doing their job. You've now just given more choice to the people and made government more responsible for their actions and given incentive for government to think and ultimately do better because they now have 49 others all trying to do the same to create a pursuit to happiness and better living for the people.
