As the above poster said, 50 inch is really not all that big if the TV is just a couple of feets from you. And since it's a 4k, it needs to be pretty big or real close to really get the effect.

As for the catch...so we can look at the upper bound for a TV like this. An LG OLED 2017 55" runs about $1500. And it's leagues better, so you really can't come very close. You can get a refurbished one for 1100ish. A samsung QLED runs even cheaper (just looking quickly you have 55 inch you can find new 2018 models in the 1100 range. 49 inch hits the $800 range)

And here you have some random amazon fire tv thingy (might be getting a discount as a loss leader to push the software portion...not uncommon with smart TVs, especially if they run ads. I don't know if this one does) from Toshiba with none of that (at least it has HDR), so slashing the price in half isn't that far off. Add the sale, and there ya go.
