Yes but in the manga, Light begs Ryuk to kill Near and the task force. Ryuk says, "Sure, I'll write," then reveals to Light that he wrote LIGHT YAGAMI, leaving Light to squirm for the next 40 seconds knowing he'll die of a heart attack.
