I felt almost the opposite, I thought the pacing was pretty tight and that was a plus until they got to Tokoyo and from there it really slowed down.
loved all the characters though and the animation was amazing.
Loved the messaging/theme, only gripe was that sacrificing for duty ended up only falling onto the cat, as opposed to the guy himself who kinda toyed with it balancing school teaching with closing doors, but seemed like a big miss not trying the story up more in a bittersweet way imo.
