Celebrities dying constantly. Though Yuko Mizutani was the big one for me.
May be harsh but how does a bunch of middle-aged and elderly celebrities dying somehow make it the "worst year ever". They're people just like anyone else. For example, between 1915 and 1920 hundreds of millions of people died because of war and the spanish flu.
