I gotta be honest, Im not rooting for this movie. It looks generic as fuck,

It looks generic because of things like Star Wars taking the source material and running with it for their planets, technology, etc. Reminds me of when John Carter came out (the book it was adapted from even predates Dune by half a century) and people were saying it was trying to copy Star Wars... lol.

and I dont think they did anything new or interesting with the property.

Well, they got a director who had actually read the book, for one thing, and it shows. Just like it was apparent that Lynch hadn't read it, especially with that magical rain storm at the end. I like Lynch's Dune for what it is, but he took quite a few liberties and they were also trying to cram at least two movies worth of material into one film. Also, by his own admission, it was him "selling out" because he thought it would bring him the money to do films he actually wanted to do... it wasn't a passion project for him like it is for Villeneuve.

To this day, Lynch still doesn't like to talk about making Dune and he has disowned it... for one of these directors, making it was a nightmare, to the other, making it was a dream come true. I don't care what anyone says, that's going to give you a drastically different film.
