Forced? To my knowledge it was more that it allowed us to support them. Palme made a name for himself internationally by condemning various imperialist ventures that many other nations who had more clearly "picked a side" in the Cold War couldn't do even if they wanted to.
But yeah, Swedish neutrality has been discussed back and forth and I suppose it would be more accurate to describe it as policy designed to keep us out of conflict, rather than a straight up refusal to pick a side.
