So this is just a survey but which kind of setup interests you the most by size

Minimal (13 players)
Golden Age (17 players)
Large (23 players)
2007 (29 players)

I have one that I am leaning towards but I expect signups to be massive for my game given the flavor is Phoenix Wright. Maybe. Who knows

How you doing?

I got GoT4 ready for 17 players, but I'm going to wait a couple days before jumping in and posting sign ups. There was definitely at least one person ahead of me on the queue.

Well the reason why I am thinking about it is a lot of people don't play anymore due to bad work schedules so by loosening activity rules those players can get to play again if they so choose. Plus it's a format that isn't really tried on board 8. The other experimental format is actually speeding up the game to 24 hour days

(Granted there are other reasons why those players aren't playing but drama is well, drama)

I hosted slow paced once, for that same reason.

People signed up for it just because it was there, even though they didn't actually want a slow paced game. So like half the players wanted slow-paced and half just signed up even though they were already playing in the current 48/24 game.

It went so slow that no one really cared, from what I remember.

That isn't to discourage you, just saying I'd avoid the pitfall of including players that don't actually want slow-paced. And this was years ago, so it may be different now.

A good middle ground might be to have the days shorten over the course of the game. Maybe D1 can start at 5 days and then take off 24 hrs on following days until back to 48 hrs.

I think short day 1's are a good thing, infact I'd actually make them 24 hour affairs personally and then slow the game down afterwards, lengthy day 1s stagnate hard as town goes round in circles with no info to go on... and scum have to push their agenda against an unmoved group of molasses.

I will keep this in mind, it's just a format that I think has some potential now that most of us are older and don't have time for standard 48 hour days

Same but many people don't and if we want to improve overall games, playing to the communities strengths is part of that I think. Besides give someone an inch and they'll take a mile, the longer you make day 1 the more bluster there is.

N0 kills is obviously the territory of garbage-tier games, but even having people come into D1 with info like in eaed's game wasn't great. So I agree that N0 is not the sign of a good game.

I like larger games more as I feel more invested in the outcome. Though a small, low-power game is certainly a better test of skill.

The primary advantage to larger games (imo) is that the host has a lot more freedom in setup design, especially with respect to using power roles. Smaller numbers are better for achieving objective balance, but they're also restrictive because if you try to do something abnormal you're probably not going to be able to effectively compensate with fewer roles.

Of course, as a player, my experience is that smaller games are more focused and easier to get into while bigger games are completely full of noise, things get lost in the shuffle, and players seem encouraged to skate by on minimum effort until the game thins out

I'm all for 24 hour day 1.

Also want to do something to really discourage players ending the day without a vote since that's essentially just existing in the game without actually playing. Not sure what a good answer is for that though.

I was thinking, you could use PW Mafia as an opportunity to get really crazy. What I was thinking was, it's not really in flavor for PW to say 'well my opponent was making a good case, so I shanked him before the trial'. I'd be interested in a very different setup. I was thinking something like No Nightkills, or even No Nights. You could have all days where people can talk freely. Alternate between Investigation and Trial, where investigation is no voting but still discussion + certain day powers, and then voting during Trial. Maybe even mechanics like Objection which is a brief (30 mins?) duel between two players where people can vote on the winner to have them gain some kind of advantage. Maybe vote thiefing the loser.

Just a bunch of odd ideas for the flavor.
