Well, is he?

Explain your reasoning.

Yes, he was dead and came back to life.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

Part of the reason the first 4-ish movies were terrifying to me when I was a kid was because you knew Jason was inhuman, and WHY he was so inhuman was an unknown mystery.

Isn't he a demon or something at this point? I feel like the later movies went in that direction to justify him coming back over and over.
All good things must come to an end - preferably in a humongous explosion!

Edit: Only from the fourth(?) movie onwards.

Zombies were doing that shit for years before we got the new, Hollywood "scientific" zombies as i refer to them.

teleport

That's just for the game, at least i can't think of a movie example of it happening.

I'm not an expert but I believe he was a spirit for awhile and inhabited other bodies, so he's not a zombie, but actually a spirit that just inhabits his original body (and can heal it etc), but can also possess/take over other bodies as well.

Also shooting him/hitting him in the head doesn't take him out/down like a zombie. Burning him doesn't destroy him like a zombie etc. His only real weakness is putting him to "sleep" under his lake, which doesn't kill him, but just stops him (I guess till they make another movie hehe).

Also, he doesn't kill indiscriminately, he won't kill kids, and even let some adults live once or twice. He goes on killing sprees and generally seems to hate horny teens (lol), often killing them in extremely painful ways for the fun of it (or audience appeal I guess), but he doesn't kill every living thing he comes across. A zombie is ravenous and does not choose it's victims. Jason also is smart and can think, plan, set traps, climb stairs, open doors and zombies are pretty much brainless (which makes their weakness kinda funny hehe).

So no, Jason is not a zombie.

He is a Chaotic Neutral spirit of Vengeance, with an aversion to sex.

Wouldn't he be way closer to wraith or lich territory than zombie territory?

You pretty much described traditional zombies to a tee. They were reanimated corpses, often having being taken over by spirits. No damage would work on them and in some cases they could put themselves back together.

They also didn't attack indiscriminately, they attacked or didn't attack whoever and whatever their master commanded them to, be that Voodoo priest or Necromancer.

Hollywood zombies are not the only or first type of zombie.

That is different, those zombies don't have free will, and would be given instructions by the priest, that they had to do, or get destroyed trying to do it. Paranormal fiction (especially Laurrel K Hamiltons books) go into it alot deaper and spread that type of zombie out (showing lots of variations), but even in that case where you could have zombies with no rules/masters etc (and zombies who retained their original memories etc), it was not the same as Jason.

All those zombies where killable in some way, fire, extreme destruction etc. In theory Anita (in those books) , could bring them back from just about any state, but...that was her magic, not the zombies themselves.

Jason is a spirit, not a zombie, but he does inhabit dead bodies and can use his power to heal them, make them stronger etc.

Would be interesting to see how a Necromancer would interact with Jason though.
