I had heard of them but didn't really know what they were. I had a VHS copy of Last Action Hero that mentioned them in an ad but I didn't really know what they were. Nobody I knew had one. Everyone I knew just had a VCR back in the 90s when I grew up.

The only Laserdisc player I saw was the one in the library at my elementary school. That school also had projectors and record players. Anyway, we watched a movie on it, but I don't remember what it was.
Well, rented rather than owned, but a great gadget. Borrowed laserdiscs from the public library.

Yes, I still own several machines (like the Sony MDP-700). I still have my collection of ~700 LaserDisks.

For playback quality, videocassettes simply couldn't come close.
pretty sure my relative in florida still has one. watched die hard on laserdisc and a wall sized projector when i went there in 5th grade.
Laserdisc still got the best version of the original Star Wars Trilogy.
