Poll question

How do you prefer the dialog to be handled?

There are pros and cons to each method. If you make it more natural and go more for an adaptation than a direct translation, it's more approachable, but a lot can get lost in translation. If you remain totally faithful to the original, it can feel off at times and will have less mainstream appeal.

I feel like the second method is the worst of both worlds, since you're not getting the real original version and it's not even adapted in a way that's more familiar to you. The best dubs try to find a middle ground between the two options, IMO.

First option.

If theyre adapting the language so I can understand it, may as well do it so it makes sense and enhances the immersion.
change it to fit, but also fit the animation.

for example: in 1st season of pokemon they changed the dialog to doughnuts... they were some kind of rice ball.

Not even sandwiches. They were called jelly donuts.

Try and keep it as close as the original I guess? I dont really ever watch something in both sub and then dub so Im not really aware of any difference other than I guess in the dragon ball series they like to call each other bastards which Im guessing they wont let fly in the dubbed version for children.

^Dragon Ball is not targeted directly at kids anymore in the west, so they do let swear words fly nowadays.

First one. A lot of subs seem to take the second route and that 's one of the reasons I prefer dubs to subs.

The moonlight shown upon her as she lay back in my bed
Princess Mononoke does the first option and very well I might add.
