The impression that I get from the outside looking in is that the game is a shallow experience made for ultra-casuals, which means it was never going to appeal to the sort of people who care about whether or not a game is "dead" for very long.
That being said I haven't played a Mario Kart game since the GameCube and I haven't
liked
one since the SNES, so at this point my personal opinion of the game is utterly meaningless. They're not made for me.
The multiplayer on the og and 64 were fun as kids but I have no interest playing against randoms online
