But my PDFs...Foxit
I've heard that GIMP is a really good free alternative to Photoshop that has nearly professional level features, but you basically need to earn a Master's degree studying it to even have a cursory level of understanding of how to operate it.Couldn't the same be said about Photoshop? GIMP isn't that hard to get a hang of. Probably just seems unintuitive to people who come from PS.

GIMP
The worst part about Acrobat is that a standard user can upgrade from Reader to Standard or Pro just by signing in with a licensed account, no admin rights are required. BUT, they cannot downgrade , so if they no longer have a license, they can't go from Pro down to Standard or either version down to Reader. It requires admin rights because you have to uninstall the software (which is a massive PITA by itself) and then reinstall Reader. What's even worse is how they hijack web browsers (and then nag you to accept even further integration on top of that). This is to the point you can't use PDFs in your web browser anymore without signing in. And Adobe, hurting for money oh so much, only lets you log into two machines at once.
And they basically have made it so you can't download the full version installer anymore. You can only download a program that downloads the actual installer, so it takes so much longer if you need to install on multiple machines.

That's news to me. I've always been able to view PDFs without a problem at all in my browser. To the point that I forgot the format is an Adobe property. This is related to the earlier comments about how once you are tainted with Acrobat Pro it clings to everything.
CS2 and Elements 9 were the last great Photoshops
I've used Paint.NET for years, but my needs in a photo editor are very, very basic.

Everyone responsible for Adobe should be in prison.
Everyone responsible for Adobe should be in prison. That's overboard.
Davies Media Design's classes are how I learned GIMP to switch away from PS.
Also shoutout to Audacity for being my primary audio editing program forever. I've even used it professionally, it's super lightweight and easy to use, even for my amateur self.As open source projects get better and better over time I wonder how many companies will go full Nintendo to try to shut them all down.

Harder to do with an American-based company? Japanese patent laws are ridiculous and Nintendo is in their government's pockets, so that's also something to consider. They are doing it in the USA too. Doesn't matter if they would lose when they can bully people to bankruptcy in legal costs.
CS2 and Elements 9 were the last great PhotoshopsI've been using Elements 7 since the early 2010's. Just seems to work great for my needs, and it still works fine with Windows 11, so I never bothered getting or upgrading to anything newer.
@DirtBasedSoap I got tix to see Modest Mouse and Built To Spill in a few weeks

Couldn't the same be said about Photoshop? GIMP isn't that hard to get a hang of. Probably just seems unintuitive to people who come from PS.As a user of solely open source software, Gimp is notoriously not good enough. All Gimp users understand this. Krita is probably better, I don't really know what photoshop users do aside from making lame youtube thumbnails anyway.
That's overboard.Going overboard gets results, throw them all in jail.
Going overboard gets results, throw them all in jail. For? See I don't believe in ignoring extremist rhetoric because very bad things happen when people that think like this get power. I've said my piece. But when someone says something genuinely disturbing, it should have pushback.

But when someone says something genuinely disturbing, it should have pushback.Saying something disturbingly extremist is like adding a drop of pitch black red food dye to a glass of water. I only get like 1% of what I ask for. You should be thankful, that's what you wanted all along.

It's good enough for everything I ever used it for. I know the developers used to explicitly claim that it's not meant to be an alternative to Photoshop, whatever that means exactly. GIMP also supports a ton of extensions for things it can't do out of the box.

Also, I think they made it better recently with the newest versions. The non-destructive layer effects was huge imo.
I really want to get back to using Linux as my main OS soon. I'll definitely give Krita a shot if/when I do. For now I'm too used to GIMP and have no real reason to switch.

With that said we should arrest all Adobe developers and give them life in prison without parole.
@DirtBasedSoap I got tix to see Modest Mouse and Built To Spill in a few weeksoh hell yeah
We should ban your account.Ok?
Ok?

oh hell yeahI don't think it's flaming lips but that would be rad. I've never seem MM (or flaming lips) live and the last time I saw Built To Spill was like 20 years ago
is it with the flaming lips too? I just saw them together last week. MM sounds so good live now
