D, going fishing with a couple buddies and a coolbox of beers is one of life's great bonding experiences. Even if you catch nothing it's just such a cool chill day to chat and hang out.

There's no obligation to fish in real life, outside of employment as a fisherman, due to a general lack of quest items or macguffins. Thus it's usually done for "fun".
Fishing in videogames is "do it until you get the thing, then never bother with minigame ever again".
