I think they are. I also think original games are an even greater test of intelligence since you can't use skills you previously learned to beat them.

they can be. it depends on the game.

and being good at games has been linked to being sick at surgery. i think.

eh, depends on the game. I'd say they're a better gauge of reaction times and hand eye coordination more than intelligence.

They're a good test of reaction times, but definitely not intelligence.

Well then I don't want a gamer to be my surgeon because then he might infect me.

reaction times mean nothing in a turn based game, for example

They can be used to gauge certain critical thinking skills.

I've maintained for a long time now that Myst II: Riven would make a great intelligence test for kids. The level of abstract thinking you need to pull everything together and actually make progress in that game...if your kid can beat that game without a guide, congrats - you have a genius on your hands.
