Admiral Scott Swift, a US Pacific Fleet Commander said he would be willing and ready to NUKE CHINA if Trump ordered him to do so!!

He said that any country whose military is not bound by civilian contorl has a "really significant problem"

He made the statement during a Q&A at an Australian National University Security conference

The conference came after a major joint training exercise by the Australian and American navies which was closely watched by Chinese vessels

He said "Every member of the US Military has sworn an oath to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic and to obey the officers and the president of the United States as commander in chief. This is core to the American democracy and any time you have a military that is moving away from a focus and an allegiance to civilian control, then we really have a significant problem

Pacific Fleet spokesman Charlie Brown had to clarify his answer and said "The admiral was not addressing the premise of the question, he was addressing the principle of civilian authority of the military. The premise of the question was ridiculous"

Yeah, plus blanket bombing with smaller yield warheads does way more damage than single high yield bombs. Most of our bombs have much smaller yields than we're actually capable of making for this reason.

I personally don't think it was right to specify any one country, it was rather extreme speech in that regard (especially from a diplomatic perspective). He could have easily just said that those in the military have sworn to uphold an oath that they will obey the orders of those appointed over them, and that the military is ready to execute the orders of the commander-in-chief, and that would have been fine.

I don't know why he had to say "oh yeah we're just gonna start nuking people".
