Alright so my little bro just graduated HS and joined the National Guard. He had been almost flunking out of HS for a few years because he never did his homework and had no parenting, and like two years ago my dad forced him to go to some therapist who gave him Ritalin. But he ended up getting involved with a group of friends that was all about the National Guard, and he was really excited to join and managed to graduate HS in order to do so.

When my dad found out my little bro was joining the National Guard he became super pissed. My dad has always been against the military to the point where he didn't even want us having military-themed toys growing up. It's not just about safety or politics, I think he actually looks down on people in the military. I just found out he had sent a bunch of texts to my mom (his ex wife) trying to convince her to fill out some form with him basically saying that my little bro has ADD and shouldn't be in the military (ADD can be disqualifying).

My mom told my little bro, who then yelled at my dad and was able to stop him from doing this.


TL;DR
My dad was trying to get my little bro banned from the military for ADD because my dad is against the military and didn't want him to join, even though my little bro really wanted to

Honestly I think the biggest factor is that he's a stereotypical coastal liberal snob. He associates the military with uneducated southern rednecks, Republicans, and Jesus Freaks. He also looks down on anyone who hunts for the same reason, even though he himself is a meat-eater.

Would they really disqualify him because one of his parent claims he has a medical condition? I would think that would need to come from a doctor, especially since your brother is presumably an adult

I can understand. bad, but not the worst. If that is the extent, I don't really have a problem with him. However, I personally can see why people might want to keep their sons out of the military (not getting shipped overseas to die) so it make me feel a little different.
