Saw an interview years ago where bill maher proclaimed that he "hated religion" but actually thought there was a god or maybe there is one can't remember which....

.....would his views on this be similar to your own?

Organized religion, yes I can say I really dislike most of it and the practices due to most of them completely missing the point of religion in general and contradicting what the bible teaches.

I have no issue with religion or people being religious though, or having a belief in a deity. I just don't have faith myself.

I don't believe in God, but I don't care if anyone else is religious.

I don't hate religion, but I'm not religious per se

I do think that there's some sort of god thing that exists though

I do not hate religion, i hate what hypocrities people do in the name of religion, like the christian bakers meme. If they where true followers, hey would not be doing that.

not all religions care about the bible. there are more religions than Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Of course Buddhists don't follow the bible, or Hindus or Shintoists or Native American shamans.
Seems like a waste of effort to hate a belief.

plus 9 times out of 10, people who "hate" religion are just bitter about being forced to go church on sundays as kids

i dont hate religion but i hate it influencing law and politics
Religion itself has its uses in getting people to not be total shitstains, but it gets to the point that people that are just born to be shitstains no matter what end up manipulating it for their idiotic reinterpretations. At this point the concept of religion has done more harm to society than good, but only because of how people have been misusing it.

I definitely understand that, but living in the US, the majority is Catholic/Christian or some variety of organized religion with belief in Jesus which is what I formed my opinion about. I don't honestly know enough about organized practice of Islam to have an opinion, and I don't think Natives have organized churches that they have to pay a portion of their income to attend. I'm perfectly fine with Shamanism and Native belief and practice.

I hate certain religions and I'm an atheist. I have noticed that the really militant atheists are often cultural marxists, which is itself a perverted parody of Christianity.
"Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it." -Thomas Sowell
Not really. I think all religions are equally ridiculous but everyone has a right to believe what they want imo

Personally the thing I hated most was going to church and the hypocrisy that I encountered there
I'm not at all hostile to religion. I had the luck of growing up in a liberal Protestant denomination(United Church of Christ). I remember a time when the church I went to ran a local ad welcoming same-sex couples after another local church expelled a lesbian couple.
Religion is our thing. It is as good or bad as we are, in equal measure. Slave-owning plantation owners cited the Bible to justify slavery, and John Brown cited it as justification for his attempt to spark a slave rebellion. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were both inspired by their respective religions, as were some of their opponents(and Malcolm's murderers).
I hate that religion tells people what to believe. If a religion isn't trying to outright scare people into following it, it at least encourages people to fall into a certain set of beliefs and morals.

Early Buddhism, at least, encouraged people to discover their own way. That I respect.
In general, yeah. I hate the awful things people use it to justify, I hate the effects it has on policy, I hate evangelicals, ect. I recognize that some good can come out of it though.
