You can't feel pain if you're dead
"All I have is my balls and my word, and I don't break them for anyone!"-Tony Montana
Practically it should just be euthanasia for rabid humans like this one https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/400-current-events/76320010

If we want them to feel pain, why would we kill them? You can't torture a dead person.

Bring back old sparky and dont wet the sponge.
Purpose is deletion, and scaring others because of the prospect of deletion.

How do you feel about the idea of super-efficient robot guards, magic, or some other phlebotinum, that makes it impossible for prisoners to hurt each other in prison?
There is no "would of", "should of" or "could of".
There is "would've", "should've" and "could've".
The cost is the reason it's pointless. If it was done efficiently and people were not kept on death row for years at a time then it would actually achieve the point it was designed for.
Mod me? You don't even know me!
Its not pointless. Its certainly a bargaining chip in negotiations. If the prosecutor can dangle death over the offenders head he might choose to just plead to life instead. It saves the family and witnesses from enduring a long drawn out trial, it saves tax money, and it helps keep the court docket clear.

D. The point of the death penalty isnt to be savage and inflict torture upon criminals. The death penalty is supposed to be a way to take terrible/dangerous people (murderers, rapists, etc.) out of society permanently. The problem is, in the US justice system it costs more money to kill someone then to feed and house them for 60 years.
