I'm courteous and polite but that's because I respect myself, not that I reapect someone else. Respect is earned.
If you have a problem with potheads, throw your computer out the window. Why should you be able leech off the creativity of those you condemn?

Other - something people care too much about.

I'm talking about the concept of respect, not the act of being respectful. Many people have ridiculous ideas on it.

I view it as a special form of trust.

And trust is earned.

Therefore respect is also earned.
