Sounds like you need to be tossing your parents in the worst possible nursing home when the time comes, and make sure to rub salt in the wounds when you do. No one should be kicked out at 18 especially with how hard things are now.

When you have 30 year olds struggling to afford an apartment with room mates when ten and twenty tears ago they could afford a house you know shit is bad.

Well, our generation has to deal with the unchecked economic inflation, but pay hasnt risen to accommodate for it. Then these assholes say youre entitled for simply wanting enough money to keep a roof over your head. Seriously? Housing prices are out of control, but when do the politicians even talk about this? Never, because they are so rich, elite, and disconnected from their constituents that they think we are all fine.

Minimum wage would be $32/hr if it rose with inflation.

Cut them out of your life.
Yeah I don't think we'll be talking for a while but I think she's fine with that anyways. Still love her but yeah I don't see us talking again. Not even mad about getting kicked out anymore. I did want to move out but it hurt being told to pack like that.

Its also a weird feeling to not say "I'm going home" at the end of the day or work or something. Also its weird realizing that I don't need to get permission to do things.

I hope I don't run into her since I'm still staying in the city she lives in. I wonder what she's going to say to her clients, also hope I don't run into them, they're nice tho.

if you're 18 and it's summer, haven't you graduated high school? do you have a plan beyond working at a store?
I sorta kicked myself out at 17 (Wasn't even outbof highschool ye), and it's one of those choices that I cherish to this day.

I love parents, but it was definitely the time to go. My dad understood, while my mother didn't, but slowly accepted it. Both were very supportive in helping me find my rhythm, but I've NEVER asked them for a single dime while on my own.

This is a blessing, TC. Take advantage of it.

Yeah I've graduated already from high school. I was preparing to go to community college and study business. But I might need to put that on hold at least for the fall semester to get my stuff together.

The good thing about this is that I'm actually making plans and figuring out what to do with my money instead of just wasting it on shit.

Since you were planning college, did you already file FAFSA and figure out if your school was going to give you aid? If you qualify for a subsidized loan, I would go ahead with school and take a loan that you can live on for the semester, it will put you into debt but if you had to do it, subsidized is the only one Id do it with. You dont start paying back until youre six months out of school (can before if you want, interest free) and the monthly payments can be arranged to be very low if your finances need it to be. There was a year where I would have been homeless if I didnt have access to that to use for cost of living, luckily Pell paid for all my school/book needs.
You remind me of the times when I knew who I was...
yeah dude sign up for fafsa, they like to help people. then you can work while you take your classes if you want. no one has their shit together at your age man, just do what you want but have a plan.
Also most apartments do not consider small caged animals as pets for the purpose of deposits/pet rent and usually dont even need them disclosed. I dont know how many you have, and if you more-so mean time and attention when you say too tough to care for at the same time, but hit me up if you mean supply wise. Parsley is $1 a bunch and if you keep them on that for fresh veggies it meets the vitamin c requirement. If they are potty trained or are able to be at least enough to just pee in a potty corner, you can switch to fleece blankets and towels to save on bedding like care fresh or whatever if thats what you currently use.
sorry this reply assumes a lot, just trying to help in the ways I can think to

Thanks for this piece of advice, I thought fasfa could only be used to pay for school. I still need to turn in one more document to complete my application.

I appreciate this post. When I got kicked out she made me take everything in the house that was "mine" including all their stuff so I'll be good on supplies for a while. I will switch to towels actually just to make cleanup a bit easier for now.

well ya gotta be going to school to use fafsa, but they often give more than just your tuition. it might help to talk to a financial aid counselor at your school to understand what is a grant, what is a loan, stuff like that.

It seems like you have a good mental approach and outlook already and that is a massive step in the right direction, so that is very good and even of things get tough and go poorly, at the very least, hold on to that.

If you can pass all the physicals, the military can at least prop you up for a few years and there are a lot of perks after for college/some careers. At a time like this when theres not much in person grunt combat going on, its honestly a real choice.

I could pass the qualifications for the branches except Marines (pull ups), still considering it as an option.

Swear to god it wasn't even like that when my mom saw us. We were just hanging out talking about life and shit. To be fair we did just finish swimming so she was in a bikini top but she was also on the other side of my room on a bean bag. And yeah she's pretty hot.

You're screwed until 24 if they refuse to fill out FAFSA. They also might keep claiming you on taxes until age 24 and there's little you can do about it except get married. It's happened to people I know.

Yes. Parents have to go through the normal eviction process to legally throw their kids out. You should get a lawyer TC. Find one that will work for a percentage of the settlement & free consultation.

He's better off leaving than getting an eviction on his record. Nobody will rent to him for 10 years.

She already did her part for the FAFSA before I got kicked out. And she wouldn't claim me on taxes, she wants me out of her life and that means in all aspects.

I did not know this. Not gonna do it though. I'm hard pressed on money atm, don't know any lawyers, and its not like my family has money. She is taking care of a family member too so I couldn't put them in a financially stressful situation.

I know a thing or two about shitty family. It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and are getting things sorted out, but you need to understand: you don't owe your family a thing if they suck. We are conditioned both biologically and socially to try and get along with family no matter what they do. Resist this urge. Some years from now, your Mom might be in a different place and maybe you can reconnect. But people don't change without a lot of hard work, and the type of person who would toss out her own son or daughter and want them gone from her life for no real reason isn't likely to do that. It gives me strong Cluster-B Personality Disorder vibes. Your mom is showing you who she is. Please believe her for the sake of her well-being and sanity.

If by any chance your apartment falls through, you might still be able to snag a dorm room at your college. That often sucks, but it does make everything easier because you can roll your meals and housing into all of the other costs and will have less to think about. Even when you are fresh out of high school and presumably in good health, this kind of thing takes a toll that you might not see coming. Do what you need to do to take care of yourself and move on with your life, but be careful about over extension.

I hope everything works out for you!
Contrary to what most people are saying, dont burn bridges with your family. Do use this to propel yourself forward and gain independence, but you are only hurting yourself by holding onto grudges.

Your parents are in the wrong and theres no debating it, but go be yourself for a while and then start dealing with them casually here and there. It should be on your terms, though. You might never forget this, but forgiveness leads to self growth.
So long,
Thanks for all the fish!

That isn't getting kicked out. That's leaving of your own free will. You were mentally prepared for that. TC's just did it out of nowhere.

Plus, yours were supportive of you leaving. It's an entirely different situation.

when I left my home at 18 I had a backup plan in the form of a few friends that were willing to bunk with me
How to open a door, Step one: https://imgur.com/EWKRS
You'll be fine buddy. I was kicked out at 19. No reason, other than my parents just didn't want to have their children around anymore (I was raised by my 8 yo brother when I was 5, well, technically our 11 year old brother was supposed to watch us- I remember getting shocked from a faulty plug and my hand having black/metallic soot on it, and my 8 yo brother told me to wash it off... good times).

Anyway, so my parents were never really fans of us 3, and my oldest brother left the house at 18, then my other brother left the house at 19, so my dad figured, well son, you are 19, time for you to go. So I had to leave and stay with a buddy for a few months, got a job during those months and eventually found an apt that was looking for a roommate. Lived like a monk, saved up half my paychecks for a little over 3 years, didn't have much of a life. Used the savings and bought a tiny house in my mid 20s. Well, turns out that was the best decision (well, only decision) I've ever done as this was Bellevue WA, the housing prices skyrocketed, I sold it for more than double the price (just under triple), bought another house, sold it in 3 years for a decent profit, started investing my money and bought my 3rd home, long story short, I haven't worked in 10 years, living off of investments, currently looking into buying 20+ acres to build a custom home. Been looking at land off and on the past year, but still haven't found the right spot.

Oh yeah, my dad died last year. Didn't shed one tear. Didn't go to his funeral (well, I couldn't because of covid and they live on a tropical island that had mandatory 2 week quarantine for travelers).
Then: Arguing with the religious using facts and logic "I have faith"

A loaf of bread is the most versatile thing in the world for cheap meals.

Put some cheese on it, put some hot dogs on it, put some jelly and peanut butter. That's 3 meals right there, all enhanced by bread.

Also a bag of chips is about 3 bucks and works as a side to a meal, or as a topping(if you put chips on your sandwiches).

Spahgetti-Os are relatively cheap and a quick meal option.

And if you're ever too exhausted from work to cook, I'd recommend a 5 dollar pizza from a local joint/little Caesars. When I was living in a budget, that shit was great. It's like 3 meals for 5 bucks, and a nice change of pace.

Edit: Also crackers are a nice, cheap snack.
