This whole topic came from a curb your enthusiasm episode where a janitor finds David schwimmers dads watch and Larry says omg thats David schwimmers dads watch! And the janitor wont give it back

Im surprised that so many people are like Id have never picked up the watch in the first place

but hey, thats why I made the topic in the first place, to get different opinions

I feel like youre acting holier than thou, and while you may not pick up EVERYTHING, if you saw something that really interested you on the ground, youd pick it up and not immediately look for the owner, thus making you semi hypocritical
if you steal a phone, but someone says they don't care if you take the phone they just want the files back because they want the pictures of their late family

what about unlabeled food in the fridge at work?

what about unclaimed doordash orders at work?

what about food that has been in the fridge at work that's been in there for more than a day?

Unlabeled food at work is not a lost item

unclaimed DoorDash orders are free game if its clear theyre not getting picked up

unlabeled food at work is not a lost item, though if it was there too long Id probably throw it away
And also to all the people saying selfish or whatever, why is money different to you? If you see five dollars on the ground, do you pick it up and say did anybody lose five dollars?! Do you leave it there? Or do you pick it up and say score!

what about a twenty dollar bill? Or a fifty?

Happened at an acquaintance's workplace years ago. HR took the side of the guy who booby-trapped his own food. Food thief has had many complaints against him.

If the guy was a known thief why didn't they fire him?

Youre walking down the street and you see a twenty dollar bill on the ground

what do you do?

Cash is different. If its not in a wallet and it leaves your hand, its not the worlds and whoever finds it now owns it

Im more talking about things
Why are you bringing up cash when early in this topic you established this is about things?

I was talking about my own personal feelings

Id like to know your own personal feelings, that was the entire point of this topic. Do you feel cash is different? Why is it different? Whats the difference? Why is me picking up a Pokemon card, or a watch, or a whatever, different than me picking up a twenty dollar bill? Its been said I should try to find the owner? Is that what you would do? You said I was stealing other peoples things by picking up something on the ground. Is it not stealing anymore if its cash? Why? Whats the difference?

I created this topic because of curb your enthusiasm expecting some different opinions, I didnt expect it to get as hostile as it did, and now Id like to delve into that

Good thing the victim didn't call the cops because they (or the DA) would take guy's side.

This is not the US or the West. Cops and lawyers wouldn't help him anyway. They would think that the capsaicin+laxative is justified.

Booby traps are illegal.
This would count as one, and worse since it's not in your private property.

The company's lawyers consider it justified. If the cops were called, nothing happened. Management did say to the workers to deal with it. So it was dealt with. He's lucky he got diarrhea instead of getting a beating.

I never found shit. Except for some cash once. Which I pocketed. I mean how would anyone claim cash anyway?

If someone says they lost it I ask for which bills comprised the total. Like 3 5s and 5 1s to make 20 total for example

I've gotten bad about it but the fridges in our work areas are tiny and get full with just the staff that's currently working.

Now if they tell me they are leaving it I leave it alone. If they don't and get mad ill reimburse them. But if the fridge gets too full shits getting tossed either way.

When all we got is mini fridges I feel leaving shit is inconsiderate.

It still an act of trapping someone into bodily harm.
If they can prove that you intentionally put a trap, the law is not on your side.

Laxatives are a booty trap.
It is impossible to live in the past, difficult to live in the present, and a waste to live in the future.
