And it might not get anymore seasons cuz Rooster Teeth can't afford it anymore. Crunchyroll funded their recent season but it was only a one-season deal.
This info comes from Barbara Dunkelman (Yang's VA) herself.

idk anything about animation, but that seems like a lot. Esp considering how RWBY actually looks.

Kinda sucks if they can't continue, though, cuz the newest season was like the only good one since it started. At least it ended on a high note.

About how long is an episode?
Green Eggs and Ham was roughly $6 million an episode, and I believe is the record holder for coat per episode.

Even indie* animation studio got bloated budget too huh.
I won't be surprised if in the near future all cartoons will be outsourced to 3rd wotld countries.

They came back to a ruined world so I would not say it was a high note...

Also...they were so hell bent on showing how " big" they made it by making a two part team up with the Justice Leauge and its own anime spin off that they bankrupt themselves in the process...great job guys. ( Facedesks)

And they knew the had big money problems over a year ago so, they were not making the right moves. https://roosterteeth.com/g/post/e903e052-4838-47d1-a62a-010bd6ff3884

A series so big that it teamed up with both anime guys and western hero's and it gets canceled because they got to full of themselves.
Its kind of impressive that they can spend so much money to make animation that looks so bad.
The solutions are

  1. Get someone that wants to pay the cost of making a new ep
  2. Change how the animate shows. Helluva boss costs 1 mill per ep and looks great
  3. Finish it up as a book series

For what it's worth, when Critical Role had their kickstarter for a single 22-minute animated episode, they were aiming for $750k. They explained in their video that a single minute of TV quality animation costs between $30k-50k.

They use a more traditional animation rather than RWBY's full CGI though and it's uh. Much higher quality. So I don't know how it compares.
