It always was canon. The only reason the movies never referenced the shows was because of internal drama between Perlmutter and Feige. IIRC, Daredevil was even supposed to show up in Infinity War until the plans got scrapped.

Speaking of which, I've also heard rumors that Kingpin is supposed to kind of be the "Thanos" for the street-level Marvel heroes, meaning there's likely plans for an eventual crossover with The Defenders, Echo, Punisher, Spider-Man and likely the two Hawkeyes.

The first 4 episodes of Season 2 of Daredevil is also fantastic, but man does it get terrible with the whole "Hand" shit afterwards.Yeah, the back half of season 2 is the weakest part of Daredevil for sure. Season 3 is kind of a slow and bleh start but once it kicks into the Bullseye part it gets way better.
