Trump Trials General Part 7

Current Events

Summary of recent developments:
  • E. Jean Carroll was awarded an $83.3 million judgement in the second defamation lawsuit against Trump
  • Trump attorney Alina Habba made an allegation in post-trial filings in the Carroll defamation case that Judge Kaplan and plaintiff attorney Roberta Kaplan had a mentor/mentee relationship and the judge should have recused himself because of this fact. Roberta Kaplan (no relation, apparently) quickly filed a detailed response refuting this claim and argued that Alina Habba should face sanctions. Alina Habba quickly backed down. No word yet on whether Habba will face sanctions for this.
  • The court-appointed financial monitor for Trump, the Trump Organization, and other defendants in the NY civil fraud case reported a pattern deficiencies in their financial reporting. She also raised questions about a $48 million loan that may have never actually existed.
  • Allen Weisselberg is working out a deal to plead guilty for perjury because he lied under oath in the NY civil fraud case.
  • Judge Engoron is now expecting to rule some time in early to mid February in the NY civil fraud case, but that timeline is still subject to change.
  • Still waiting on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals to rule on Trumps presidential immunity appeal in the January 6th case. Trump has succeeded in delaying the original March start date in this trial.
  • The NY hush money/falsification of business records criminal trial is still set for March 25th and might end up being the first Trump criminal trial to start after all.
  • No trial dates for the remaining Georgia RICO case defendants as of yet. Mike Roman made some allegations that Fani Willis had an improper relationship with fellow prosecutor Nathan Wade and wanted Nathan Wades divorce records unsealed to gain supporting evidence. The unsealed divorce records apparently made no mention of Fani Willis. Fani Willis has requested an August 5th trial date for all remaining defendants, but some plea deals may still be in the works.
  • Jack Smith met with Judge Cannon in the classified documents case without defense counsel present. From what Ive read, Jack Smith may have been wanting to delete or provide a basic summary of some of the highly classified documents for the purposes of the trial.
  • The civil lawsuit against Trump that was set to start on January 29th has been dismissed without prejudice by the judge. The judge said the plaintiffs must refile in the state courts where they reside.
