Kaplan, who has represented clients in high-profile cases against Trump, including E. Jean Carroll, said on an episode of the George Conway Explains it All (to Sarah Longwell) podcast recorded Thursday that she rejected the former presidents request that they work through a lunch break because he believed the deposition was a waste of my time.

And then you could kind of see the wheel spinning in his brain. You could really almost see it, Kaplan told Republican strategist Sarah Longwell and conservative attorney George Conway, a longtime Trump critic. And he said, Well, youre here in Mar-a-Lago. What do you think youre going to do for lunch? Where are you going to get lunch?

Kaplan said she told him that his attorneys had graciously offered to provide her team with lunch a common civil practice between opposing legal teams.
At which point there was a huge pile of documents, exhibits, sitting in front of him, and he took the pile and he just threw it across the table. And stormed out of the room, Kaplan shared, adding that Trump specifically yelled at his lawyer Alina Habba for providing them lunch.
He really yelled at Alina for that. He was so mad at Alina, she said.
Kaplan continued: He came back in and he said, Well, howd you like the lunch? And I said, Well, sir, I had a banana. You know, I can never really eat when Im taking testimony. And he said, Well, I told you, it was kind of charming. He said, I told you, I told them to make you really bad sandwiches, but they cant help themselves here. We have the best sandwiches.

Such a weird horrible human being. "We want to feed you bad food, but we aren't capable of that. Just know that if we could, we would"
This is a signature.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure trying to give the other side terrible food isn't a smart legal strategy, but then again Trump isn't very smart.

Summary of recent developments:
  • E. Jean Carroll was awarded an $83.3 million judgement in the second defamation lawsuit against Trump
  • Trump attorney Alina Habba made an allegation in post-trial filings in the Carroll defamation case that Judge Kaplan and plaintiff attorney Roberta Kaplan had a mentor/mentee relationship and the judge should have recused himself because of this fact. Roberta Kaplan (no relation, apparently) quickly filed a detailed response refuting this claim and argued that Alina Habba should face sanctions. Alina Habba quickly backed down. No word yet on whether Habba will face sanctions for this.
  • The court-appointed financial monitor for Trump, the Trump Organization, and other defendants in the NY civil fraud case reported a pattern deficiencies in their financial reporting. She also raised questions about a $48 million loan that may have never actually existed.
  • Allen Weisselberg is working out a deal to plead guilty for perjury because he lied under oath in the NY civil fraud case.
  • Judge Engoron is now expecting to rule some time in early to mid February in the NY civil fraud case, but that timeline is still subject to change.
  • Still waiting on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals to rule on Trumps presidential immunity appeal in the January 6th case. Trump has succeeded in delaying the original March start date in this trial.
  • The NY hush money/falsification of business records criminal trial is still set for March 25th and might end up being the first Trump criminal trial to start after all.
  • No trial dates for the remaining Georgia RICO case defendants as of yet. Mike Roman made some allegations that Fani Willis had an improper relationship with fellow prosecutor Nathan Wade and wanted Nathan Wades divorce records unsealed to gain supporting evidence. The unsealed divorce records apparently made no mention of Fani Willis. Fani Willis has requested an August 5th trial date for all remaining defendants, but some plea deals may still be in the works.
  • Jack Smith met with Judge Cannon in the classified documents case without defense counsel present. From what Ive read, Jack Smith may have been wanting to delete or provide a basic summary of some of the highly classified documents for the purposes of the trial.
  • The civil lawsuit against Trump that was set to start on January 29th has been dismissed without prejudice by the judge. The judge said the plaintiffs must refile in the state courts where they reside.

It fascinates me that George Conway - an unabashed Trump-hater - is married to the woman who successfully ran Trump's 2016 campaign. Like, did she come home after doing an interview on Sean Hannity and ask how his day was and he responds that he tore Trump a new one during an interview with Jake Tapper?

Legally, perhaps. But right wing media and, more importantly, Georgia's legislature is just getting starting.

Yeah. The "issue" is based purely on "who" has the personal relation and not any notion of them having personal relations.

Course they could always do like the House did and have somebody say "I'll go for it if you hold those rules to these people too" in open court.

Yeah, but there's nothing one can do about that. Right wing media is still going on and on about how the 2020 election was stolen despite all of the court cases, guilty pleas, and various state bar disciplinary cases that have happened since then.

Apparently the FBI might have missed some rooms when they executed the search warrant... I wonder if there are still classified documents at Maralago.

The fact that they couldn't find a key, and just took the word of a man that lied to their faces for months, really makes you think.

Also, I think it was Christopher Wray who mentioned how reluctant the FBI was to even go after Trump in the first place. Perhaps they put in minimum effort.

Considering how she worked for Cruz and was anti-Donnie herself up until she worked for him, I would say it was very well known that it was just a job.

The March 4th trial for Trump's charges related to January 6th is officially delayed, sadly, because of the presidential immunity appeal. Expected at this point, but still disappointing that Trump gets to delay his own criminal trial with bullshit appeals.

If he wins, the January 6 and documents trials are dead before the sun sets on his first day in office. And the truly frustrating part about this delay is the answer is obvious; no, the President isn't immune to criminal prosecution for the crimes he committed while in office.

but it would be hilarious if he wins the appeal and a precedent is established that the president has immunity, and then immediately Biden has the Secret Service haul Trump off to Gitmo or something.
The absolute immunity argument that Trump's mouthpieces made in court was so extreme that Biden would supposedly be immune from criminal prosecution if he were to have commandos butcher Trump and all congressional Republicans.

Anyone who supports trump is pro-rape.
