i don't think they will. if they rule that a president cannot be tried for crimes, they would effectively be crippling the power of the entire judicial branch including themselves. purely from a standpoint of serving self interest, that is one of the most illogical things they could do.Basically this. Even under the assumption that there would be some political sympathies, the ramifications of a reversal are far more severe and long lasting than the political fallout/damage to the Republican party.
He's going to be spiteful and ask for en banc. And then when he finds that maybe 1 out of 10 judges on the panel agrees with him, he'll run with that.
I just don't see what the SCOTUS has to gain from protecting Trump at this point. Their positions are already locked in for life.Yep, SCOTUS ruled against him in Vance (not related to JD Vance).
I'm thinking MAYBE they fear violence from Trumpers, but haven't they already ruled against him before?
If the scotus says he has immunity Dark Brandon can do whatever he wants and get away with it

Which is the other thing that they want to avoid. In a functional two-party system, the other guy gets to do what the one guy does. You can't have total presidential immunity. You just can't. The ramifications are too broad to be this short sighted.
I think the main concern is whether or not they delay the ruling until it's too late.
What would the SC gain by intentionally delaying the ruling till after the election? Hoping Trump wins and stops the federal cases so they don't have to rule?If they rule against him and Trump wins, he might have them executed once he seizes power.

We cannot accept former President Trump's claim that a President has unbounded authority to commit crimes that would neutralize the most fundamental check on executive power - the recognition and implementation of election results. Nor can we sanction his apparent contention that the Executive has carte blanche to violate the rights of individual citizens to vote and to have their votes count.
At bottom, former President Trump's stance would collapse our system of separated powers by placing the President beyond the reach of all three Branches. Presidential immunity against federal indictment would mean that, as to the President, the Congress could not legislate, the Executive could not prosecute and the Judiciary could not review. We cannot accept that the office of the Presidency places its former occupants above the law for all time thereafter.

She is really bad at her job.
I'm not even sure what she's trying to say here."Why was it bad when people 'protested'(read: stormed the capitol to overthrow an election) but not when the national guard protected the Capitol from being during the inauguration?"
I mean, I get that she's deeply, deeply stupid and not even she knows what she's trying to say here, but even still...
I'm not even sure what she's trying to say here. You can see the exact moment the guy behind her comprehends what she just said and suffers a brain aneurysm.
