I don't remember all the details but it's basically mercenaries teaming up with Predators to fight other Predators. The studio came in when it was mostly finished and absolutely eviscerated it in the editing room and forced reshoots to make it into a completely different movie. The final product is a barely comprehensible Frankenstein movie. That said, I still think it's pretty decent. Some solid action and kills and fun characters with snappy Shane Black dialogue. Would have loved to see the original though.
Movies shouldn't be remade unless it's a passion project, but too often it's because the studio needs to put something out or they loose the license.
